MISSION STATEMENT

The original mission of Saint Andrews South Golf Club was and remains to be responsive and exceed the expectations of our members and to provide our members and their guests with a quality golf course and clubhouse.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

St. Andrews South Golf Club was established as a private golf club in December, 1980, and opened for golf 12 months later.   Although the course was rather rough in those early years with limited facilities, membership was fully subscribed to the maximum level of 250.   In the 1990s, a number of facility improvement programs were initiated, including construction of cart paths, additional sand traps and enlargement of the clubhouse, dining room, kitchen, practice and maintenance facilities and landscaping.   In 2014 SAS transitioned the greens to a more salt and disease tolerant paspalum grass and this has enabled our recent 18 hole irrigation upgrade to perform at its maximum potential.
 
On August 13, 2004, Hurricane Charley struck Punta Gorda and did extensive damage to the city as well as to the course and all the facilities.  It took 14 months to fully reopen the Club in its entirety.  Although a number of members were permanently displaced from the area, improvements to the Club continued in the following years.  In 2005, the Board of Directors led St. Andrews through a significant change in the management of the Club.  Until then, the Club was run by a number of different operating committees, which was appropriate for those initial years, but began to result in operational challenges.  In the end, the BOD and membership ultimately determined the operations of the Club would be most effectively run by hiring a professional General Manager and eliminating the operating committees.  As a result, in 2005 the Board hired Charlie Priester to become the full-time General Manager and PGA Golf Professional of SAS, which has proved to be a very wise decision.  
 
St. Andrews South members and staff are widely recognized as being very involved in our local community through hosting a number of charity benefits and volunteer activities.  The Club has been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce Members' Choice Award, the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year Award and Readers Choice Awards for Best Golf Course by Florida Weekly Newspaper and Harbor Style magazine, to name a few.
